Gatorland
Whenever people visit Florida on vacation there is always something they want to see, and that is a Florida alligator. You could always go down to the lakes and look out over the fast expanse for the familiar shape of ones head and body. But that’s dangerous and the chances of you actually finding one is very slim! So how are you going to get your gator fill while you are here in the Orlando area? Well one of the most popular attractions in the area is the Gatorland, where you can come face to face with some of these incredible animals!
Most people assume that when they see or hear “Gatorland” that they will find one or two alligators locked in cages. Well that is not the case; in fact there is a reason that Gatorland is such a popular place to visit while on vacation! This great attraction has been around since 1930, as a family owned and operated attraction it is much more affordable than the theme parks in the area. Gatorland has been nicknamed the “Alligator capital of the world” and for good reason, you can find hundreds of alligators here, ranging from small foot long newly born to massive twelve to fourteen foot eight hundred pound monsters!
As soon as you make your way through the Gatorland gift shop and into the park you will find yourself standing on large elevated walk ways. Underneath you are hundreds of everyone’s favorite Florida animal, the Florida gator. You can actually purchase hot dogs and sometimes fish to feed to the gators. Drop it over the edge and watch these massive animals swim through the water to get their meal. At the end of the day they even string out entire frozen chickens over the water on a line. You get to watch as these eight hundred pound behemoths leap out of the water, sometimes then feet into the area and grab the suspended chicken. Get your cameras out because everywhere you turn you will see these awesome creatures.
Gatorland isn’t just popular for its animals, but its shows as well! Watch as man verses alligator in an alligator wrestling match. They invite an audience member from the crowd to choose a gator, and then they pull it out of water and show you a whole series of tricks as they wrestle the gator… these tricks and tips probably should not be tried at home. You can also see a snake show where they show audience members that snakes aren’t as violent as they appear.
Gatorland is home to hundreds more animals, not just alligators. So next time you are in town stop by and enjoy a whole days worth of fun and entertainment at Gatorland! We assure you this is the best bang for your buck!
